Firefox 2 Preview Available

The Mozilla Foundation has recently released a preview version of the next Firefox release - Firefox 2 RC2. Although it won’t be stable enough for the average user, if you’re happy enough to give it a go in its current state, it promises the following improvements, amongst others:

  • Built-in phishing protection
  • Enhanced search capabilities, including a live-search feature from the search box.
  • Session saver (it looks like something along the lines of the invaluable Session Saver extension I currently use will be included as standard).
  • Improved handling of RSS feeds. IE7 apparently handles RSS feeds well, so this is a much-needed improvement for Firefox.
  • Inline spell-checking for web forms.

It looks as if Internet Explorer 7 will be released before Firefox 2 becomes stable, but features such as the inline spell-checker should help Firefox retain its market share.
