What The Flock?
Firstly, sorry for the dodgy title, but with a name like that then it’s open to abuse.
The blogging world seems to be buzzing with the beta release (is anything released fully-developed these days?) of Flock - a new browser/bookmark/blogging tool which as far as I can tell promises to bring everything together under one roof to let us blog, bookmark and tag to our hearts content. Very Web2.0 (anyone else tired of that term yet?).
And while I love the promise of what it offers, I’ve spent 10 minutes trying to work out how I can make it do anything more than Firefox. It’s very frustrating, as from reading the hype, I know it should be very useful, but I can’t seem to find out how to get it to integrate with my del.icio.us links, let alone allow me to post to several blogs via WordPress (I’ve heard that it won’t do TextPattern yet, too).
So, although for some reason I really want to like Flock, I’m left a little disappointed by my first impressions. They’ve also already released a developer API, so whilst I’m still struggling to get to grips with the basics, other developers are furiously hacking away and coming up with brilliant concepts that I wish I was able think of.
