Printing Flickr Photos

I’ve been waiting for news about a printing service called Qoop for a while, having come across their site a few months ago whilst trying to source a cheap, online printing service that could be used to produce some books of content taken from The Beat.

I’d left my email address in anticipation, as it looked like it could be useful and do what I want (this is happening a lot at the moment - loads of anticipation of cool new services that only have a name, such as Backpack, Odeo and latterly, Mint).

Today I got some launch information about Qoop’s new beta, which enables you to print your Flickr photos.

It’s something that Flickr has been lacking since launch - although many of us are now happy to share our photos purely electronically, and most of our efforts never get to make it to paper, there are times when a hard-copy would be useful (e.g. to send to your computer illiterate parents, or to put in a frame on the wall).

I’ve had a brief look at the service, from which you can print either books or posters, and it does look quite cool. There are a few styles to choose from, and they appear to be printed on decent paper and be well bound.

At the moment there doesn’t seem to be an option to print a single photo (at least I couldn’t find it, and that might be good for producing posters from your favourite shots). The pricing might also be a draw back if you’re to print a lot of images, and we’ll have to see if they accept orders from the U.K., and what the shipping costs will be.

Certainly looks like a useful addition to the already impressive Flickr.
