Website Design Sketch Template
Whilst reading SitePoint’s web design blog the other day, I came across something that might be of interest to those of us who like to roughly mock new designs up with a pencil and paper. The Web Designer’s Sketch Pad intoduced me to the Webjillion Mockup Maker, which is essentially a notepad with monitor resolution guidelines on it.
I haven’t yet seen anything like this in the shops. Unfortunately, the product appears to have disappeared from the Webjillion website, so I have knocked up a very quick PDF version which is a similar design to the Webjillion notepad.
Alex Walker at Sitepoint suggests that this would be good for presenting basic mock-ups to clients, however for me, this would just be used to sketch out an initial layout (my drawing skills can only stretch to sketches, not full-colour / detail mock ups), and the resolution guidelines just give me a reasonable feel to what I have to work with, and can help visual how a fluid or fixed layout is going to work. Not exactly a revolutionary tool, but I thought I’d share it in case it was of interest to any other designers.

It’s designed to be printed in landscape on A4 paper – if you’ve got any feedback or anything you’d like me to add to it, please let me know in the comments.
Thank you so much for this – I was about to embark on putting together a similar thing. I guess my only suggestion would be a smaller version – perhaps 2 or 3 layouts to a page (still A4), for those really fast sketches for a single project when you’re thinking out rough ideas.
