Charity Football Match in Aid of Myeloma

Thumbnail of charity flyer

If there’s anyone reading this in the Wolverhampton area, and wishing to see a group of unfit blokes pulling their arses around a football pitch (for a good cause!), Edd has organised a charity football game in aid of Myeloma - a little known cancer of the blood.

The game takes place on June 26th (coinciding with Myeloma Awareness Week), from 1p.m., at the Royal Wolverhampton School (who have kindly donated us an astroturf pitch).

I’ve put together a flyer / poster for the game.

We’re pretty much sorted for players now, although if you’d like to come along and support then please feel free - bring some shorts and you might just get on as substitute. If you’d simply like to make a donation, please get in touch with myself or Edd. We’re all paying £5 to play, but we hope to raise more money by having some special money-making events during the game (e.g. nutmegs, hatricks, dragbacks by Edd etc).

Information on Myeloma

Myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow caused by the uncontrolled growth of plasma cells. Manufactured in the bone marrow, plasma cells are a critical part of the body’s immune system.

At any given time there are between 10,000 and 15,000 people who have Myeloma in the United Kingdom. With approximately 4,000 new cases diagnosed annually, the UK has seen an increase in the incidence of Myeloma in the last few decades. Today, Myeloma is one of the most rapidly increasing types of cancer in the western world. However, despite advances in treatment and increased levels of research, there is still no known cure.

For more information, visit the International Myeloma Foundation (UK) website.

Hi Rob. I just realized that you left me a comment after one of my posts at the Beat. Are you affiliated with the Beat? Fantastic site anyway.

Thanks. And if I did live in your area across the pond, you could count me in. I suppose I’ll be there in spirit.

    Hi Lisa,

You could say that I’m affiliated with the Beat, seeing as I designed it ;)

Thanks for buying a Beat t-shirt by the way - I’ve seen the photos and I think we’ll be posting them on the site very soon!

By the way, how did you come across this site? Through The Beat?

    Rob

Hi again. Yes, that is exactly how I found your blog, through the Beat. Great design job you did. The site looks fantastic. I rave about the-Beat to everyone I know and a lot of people I don’t. Sean seems like a remarkable guy. I don’t know, I suppose I believe we all find people and things through our destinies and Sean has shown me great kindness. He’s professional and the both of you run a great zine. It would do the entire world good to see it grow into mass popularity. Why it wouldn’t is beyond me. :)

Glad you liked the pic’s and I wear the shirt around. I recently attended a Springsteen concert where I was in suite with some big names. I told every one of them about the zine. It’s all about exposure I suppose.

Okay, I’ve rambled on enough. I think I’ll add your blog link to my blog page if that is cool with you.

    Lisa,

Thanks for the kind words (ooh and do feel free to add me to your blog page!)- I guess myself and Sean like to think we have a good thing with the Beat, and we’d really like to make big things of it, but at the end of the day it’s just the two of us working to get others noticed and maybe make a name for ourselves at the same time - I know Sean is a bit of a writer and has aspirations in that direction - I want to do web stuff and the Beat project sort of spread from there.

Thanks for buying a t-shirt, much appreciated. Glad to hear it’s getting some wear too.

By the way, is it you who has links to some guitarist or something? I think Sean mentioned it was you or another of our contributors? Anyway, I play guitar too… http://flickr.com/photos/98739313@N00/13990401/ ;>)

Any more good writing in the pipeline for us?

Gosh, I should just move in over here seeing how I keep dropping by. :)

Yes, I have a link to Fred Wheeler. He’s a musician and runs an Independent artists site. I’ve known him for many years. He’s a fantastic person, great musician, and overwhelmingly gracious individual. He even played at Bob Dylan’s 60th Birthday Bash by invitation! Which is fantastic, obviously from my submissions at the-Beat, I kind of have this thing for bob. :)

I also link to another young band, they’re very today I guess but have so much potential to grow. I met them actually through my blog.

Sean is a great writer. I’ve read his work at the-Beat. You guys have a good thing going there. It is absolutely one of those places that will just continue to grow and gain recognition and begin attracting more and more writers. I used to co edit a literary zine and I know how much work goes into it. I finally relinguished my position just so I could spend time on my own stuff.

Well, let’s see, I could add a link to your blog, but, can I use one of your photo’s? I can put it in the sidebar. I wanted to link to the Beat too but I need Sean to give me a graphic.

Hmmm… none of the photos are particularly good - i’ll see if I can find a better one or maybe a logo for you to put on your site.

I’ll probably have to sort a graphic out for the Beat too, so i’ll send you some stuff by email over the weekend.

    Regards,

    Rob.
