Charity Football Match in Aid of Myeloma
If there’s anyone reading this in the Wolverhampton area, and wishing to see a group of unfit blokes pulling their arses around a football pitch (for a good cause!), Edd has organised a charity football game in aid of Myeloma - a little known cancer of the blood.
The game takes place on June 26th (coinciding with Myeloma Awareness Week), from 1p.m., at the Royal Wolverhampton School (who have kindly donated us an astroturf pitch).
I’ve put together a flyer / poster for the game.
We’re pretty much sorted for players now, although if you’d like to come along and support then please feel free - bring some shorts and you might just get on as substitute. If you’d simply like to make a donation, please get in touch with myself or Edd. We’re all paying £5 to play, but we hope to raise more money by having some special money-making events during the game (e.g. nutmegs, hatricks, dragbacks by Edd etc).
Information on Myeloma
Myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow caused by the uncontrolled growth of plasma cells. Manufactured in the bone marrow, plasma cells are a critical part of the body’s immune system.
At any given time there are between 10,000 and 15,000 people who have Myeloma in the United Kingdom. With approximately 4,000 new cases diagnosed annually, the UK has seen an increase in the incidence of Myeloma in the last few decades. Today, Myeloma is one of the most rapidly increasing types of cancer in the western world. However, despite advances in treatment and increased levels of research, there is still no known cure.
