The Beat
The Beat is an on-going project with my colleague, Sean McGahey, to produce a showcase for new and exciting writers, poets and artists. The site is constantly evolving to include reviews and interviews.

The original incarnation was hand-built (including the Content Management System), but I have recently moved it over to Wordpress, a powerful CMS to allow for easier updating. The site has also been extensively re-designed to give it a fresher look.
Skills involved in designing, building and the continued development of The Beat:
- XHTML - website foundation, the “content layer”.
- CSS - the presentational elements, such as fonts, colours etc.
- PHP - a language to create dynamic pages.
- Customisation of WordPress - tailoring the CMS to the needs of the site.
- Graphic design - logos and backgrounds to spice up the look of the site.
- 3rd party integration - setting up links and affiliate schemes with the likes of Amazon, Threadless and CafePress to generate income from the site.
Go to The Beat.
WV4 is the online home of Rob Lewis, featuring a blog covering a variety of subjects, mainly web design, CSS and PHP, as well as featuring useful links to other websites.
