Firefox 2 Out Now

Hot on the heels of Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla has released Firefox 2.

You can read more about the new features in FF2 in a previous post. Having used it for about a day now, the upgrade from 1.5.x seems pretty smooth. As is normal with upgrades to Firefox, various Extensions do not work immediately, but I expect the majority will be updated to be compatible in the near future.

I’d got used to using the SessionSaver extension, but FF2’s built-in session saving functionality doesn’t seem to be enabled by default (go to Tools > Options > When Firefox starts to enable it).

The built-in spellchecker doesn’t seem to be working as I write this post, but that might be because I’m using Wordpress’s WYSIWYG editor, and I’m yet to check out how it handles RSS feeds, although it seems to recognise that I’m a FeedDemon user.

I’m not that enamoured with the new default style, but I am probably so used to the previous theme.

Page rendering would appear to be a little quicker than before, and Firefox is supposed to be a little more memory-friendly this time around.

All-in-all, it seems like a pretty solid update - and I’m pleased to report that there’s no sign of me returning to Internet Explorer in the near future.
